The exhibitions of the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow are presented not only in Poland, but also abroad. In June 2023, an exceptional situation took place. Within just a few days, two of the museum’s exhibitions were opened in two influential museums in the United States thanks to support from a grant from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
The exhibition “Sweet Home Sweet: A Story of Survival, Memory and Returns” opened at the
Holocaust Museum Los Angeles, the oldest Holocaust museum in the United States. A few days
earlier, the exhibition “The Girl in the Diary. Searching for Rywka from the Łódź Ghetto” opened at
the Illinois Holocaust Museum Education Center.
Interestingly, for the first time in the history of this institution, a temporary exhibition was also fully captioned in Polish, which is a nod to the Polish community living in the Chicago region. The exhibition openings were attended by the Director of the Galicia Jewish Museum Jakub Nowakowski and the Chief Curator and Deputy Director of the museum Tomasz Strug.
