This is the third time that representatives from over 150 European institutions and organizations dealing with 20th-century history will discuss today’s attitude towards remembrance in the context of this year’s anniversaries of important historical events. The symposium is an initiative of the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity.

Erich Honecker (1912-1994) was a German communist activist. During the Second World War he was persecuted by the Nazis, and after the war he was among the most influential politicians of the German Democratic Republic, being supported and trusted by the USSR. As an activist and later First Secretary of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany and head of state in 1971-1989, he influenced the GDR for decades.

On March 13th-14th, the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw will turn into a space for debate about the use of new technology in politics. Politicians, local activists and activists from Poland and East-Central Europe will arrive in Warsaw. This all will be part of the Second Edition of hte Personal Democracy Forum, the most important event devoted to open government in Europe. The conference is co-ogranised by the Polish NGO Fundacja ePaństwo, the publisher of Sejmometr.pl and the initiator of the project Koduj dla Polski.
