Building a “collective desire”: the rise of Kamza tells the story of post-communist Albania

Seven kilometres from the Albanian capital, Kamza has been the site of exponential urban development since the fall of the communist regime in the early 1990s, when it became a destination of choice for internal Albanian migration. Built by its inhabitants, the city now faces – and attempts to resist – intense pressure from politicians and the construction sector.
