The last installation works are currently conducted right before the opening of the Galicia Jewish Museum exhibition “Sweet Home Sweet: A Story of Survival, Memory, and Returns”, which will take place at Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre on October 16th.
“Sweet Home Sweet: A Story of Survival, Memory, and Returns” is devoted to three generations of the Ores family and their relationship to Poland. The exhibition explores how Holocaust memory and narratives are transmitted through the generations, and how the children and grandchildren of survivors engage with contemporary Poland. The exhibition offers a story of how one family formed their own vibrant connections to the country of their roots, while still living with the pain and trauma of the Holocaust, and raises challenging questions about the relationship between ethnic Poles and Jewish survivors and their families, with the goal of understanding this relationship today.
The presentation of the exhibition in Cape Town will be accompanied by a program of events featuring representatives of the Galicia Jewish Museum. In October and November, the events will include a lecture, discussions, and film screenings that focus on memory and Polish-Jewish relations.
The project was financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland from the Fund for Promoting Culture.
