You are invited to participate in a discussion titled: "Will new media change new Europe? Democracy and democratization in the digital age".

The event is co-organized by New Eastern Europe, the "Energy for Europe" Foundation and the Centre for East European Studies – University of Warsaw.

The panel discussion will take place on October 29th, 2013, at. 18:30 in Warsaw (Krakowskie Przedmieście 32, Pałac Tyszkiewiczów-Potockich, Sala Narożna).

In the latest issue of New Eastern Europe, the topic of new media in Central and Eastern Europe was discussed. During the process of transformation, countries of the region have reached different levels of stability and prosperity. What remains common is the fact that all of them, without exception, still need to "make up for the losses" that divide them from their more developed western partners. In recent years, a new powerful factor determining social processes has entered the arena – growing internet penetration.

This medium not only ensures the possibility to disseminate information and communicate freely, but also to influence and manipulate public opinion and even control the society on an unprecedented scale. Is the spread of the internet and development of new media favourable for consolidation of democracy in Central and Eastern Europe? What are the opportunities and dangers provided by the technology? What we can do to reduce potential negative consequences? Can Internet become an effective vehicle for the dissemination of ideas on an international scale? We will try to answer these and many other questions.

Feel free to share your thoughts on this topic and to ask questions via Twitter and Facebook by using the hashtag #DigEE (Digital Eastern Europe). The most interesting ones will be discussed during the meeting.

The panel will be held in Polish, but you are welcome to contribute your ideas in English as well!

If you are interested in participating in the meeting, please register by October 28, 2013 at http://nee24.eu/

The panel will be broadcasted live over the Internet.
