Happy New Year and welcome to the January 2012 newsletter!
We are proud to present the January/March 2012 issue of New Eastern Europe. Following our Facebook poll in which we asked you to vote on which article you would most like to read online, we are pleased to announce that, “The Unmasking of Tymoshenko” in which Piotr Pogorzelski exposes the setting behind the Tymoshenko case in Ukraine, is now available on our website (https://www.neweasterneurope.eu/node/158). Look out for more articles from the January/March issue which will be posted on the website over the next couple of months.
Also in the new issue, Alexei Tulbure, Executive Director of the Helsinki Citizens Assembly of Moldova, unveils the illusions of the seemingly successful accomplishments of the Moldovan government in integrating the country with the European Union, while, Polish journalist, Jarosław Marczuk, presents a story from Georgia in which three photojournalists were arrested and later tried on espionage charges.
The January/March issue also contains articles by Andrew Wilson, Senior Policy Fellow at the European Council of Foreign Relations; Basil Kerski, Director of the European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk; Shana Penn of the Taube Foundation of Jewish Culture; Ana Maria Sandu, a Romanian writer and journalist, as well as a personal memoir of Ukrainian dissident, Vyacheslav Chornovil, written by Myroslav Marynovych and the story behind the art of Polish-based, Lithuanian-born artist, Stasys Eidrigevicius.
This issue also includes interviews with Hans-Gert Pöttering, former president of the European Parliament, Kakha Gogolashvili, the Director of EU Studies at the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies, and Bogdan Borusewicz, Speaker of the Polish Senate. We also have reviews of books by Władysław Bartoszewski, Andrew Wilson, Luke Harding, Oliver Bullough among others.
